first post - result of boredom
so here i am..sitting in class..reading food blogs, and i decided to start my own. its quite surprising cuz i'm not the kind of person who even reads blogs (see what boredom can do?), let alone have one. anw..anything for food ;) so during the break, i walked briskly to Chippys @ raffles city to try the fried mars bar (SGD2.95) and triple c (cheesy curry chicken).
the service was relatively fast and unique, they take your name down and call u when its done. as promised, the mars bar (4 small pieces) served with vanilla or choc ice cream (i chose vanilla and it came with choc syrup) was served in 2min. and the chicken, about 2min later. i finished the mars bar while walking back. not too oily, greasy, and the warm taste of the mars bar tangled with melted caramel was really good. oddly though, it didnt complement the ice-cream, or should i say the ice-cream didnt complement the mars bar, unlike that of a warm brownie and ice cream. much much better than the fried mars bar at New York New York @ city link. 1/3 the price too.
as for the triple c, i chose extra spicy. initially i thought that the batter would be cheesy. However, it was fried curry chicken pieces coupled with a thick cheddar cheese dip (so u decide if u just want the spicy chicken or the spicy chicken in cheese dip). the portion is big, so its relatively cheap at $3.45, unlike those chicken pieces at shihlin which dont really taste that good - cant compare to the original in taiwan costing only NT40 (SGD2.00), where they serve it in a huge chicken chop piece on its own.
to top this post off, i went to the dinner buffet at hotel phoenix yesterday. the dessert was fantastic - creme brulee (warm custard pudding with caramelized sugar), tiramisu (with an aromatic coffee flavour), cheesecake, durian mousse (their signature dessert), and more which are not really worth mentioning. also, their roti prata is one of the best. went a couple of yrs back, until now I feel the same way. With mutton or chicken curry (its a buffet so u can have both), or even on its own, its delightfully crispy and fluffy - the way roti prata should be - not stiff and cold and hard to tear. btw, i saw an american eating the roti prata with tartar sauce and thousand island (maybe i should try that someday heh). the buffet also consisted of hainanese chicken rice, which i didnt realise was there until i was almost full, laksa, fried dory fillets, the usual buffet stuff, cold section with mussels and prawns, sushi (just two types, i didnt bother trying) and a salad bar. the caesar salad was surprisingly good, reminded me and my mum of the caesar salad that we had in Toronto, Canada in June. Was in the CN tower having lunch which cost like 70++CND per person. the salad alone was priced at CND 15. but it was award winning and very very worth it.
So, hopefully i'll have more eventful food experiences to blog about. i shall get back to my cheesy curry chicken now ;) will add pictures in the future
